Harbour Guides

There are a wide range of Harbour Guides available. Some are fully illustrated, often with colour chartlets, to the somewhat less fully featured, and often free, local publications. Given below is a selection we've found.

Komma's is Denmark's equivalent of Reeds. It has a page or two for every Danish harbour with a chart and information on amenities It also covers southern Sweden, with a little coverage of Eastern Sweden. Its written in Danish, which it heavy going for a Brit, but its possible to pick up the gist. Consistent approach, but no photos. One good thing is that it tends to mention the number of guest berths and mark them on the map. Available from local Chandlers and good Danish bookshops.

Der NV Hafenlotse is a set of harbour guides made to accompany the NV Series Danish and German Charts. The best thing to buy are the combipacks which consist of the paper charts, eqiuvalent electronic versions (in BSB format), a PC based viewer (English controls) and a set of accompanying harbour guides. Although written in German, the guides have excellent chartlets in colour and line drawings of landfalls but there are no photos. Available from local chandlers or direct from NV and Nautisk Forlag

Svensk Kusthandbok, is the Swedish equivalent of Kommas. Available in five volumes, it covers the whole of the popular Swedish coast. Each harbour has a plan, and an aerial photo.

Sejler Netvaerk Ostjylland (Tourist Board) publishes neat little guides in English, German and Danish, promoting local areas. I've seen this for East Jutland and believe there to be others. Each harbour has a page, with aerial photos and a list of amenities. No maps. There are also pages on areas of interest and sailing on the Fjords. Free from tourist offices or marinas in the area.
